Indigenous Early Childhood Educator

Credential: Certificate  Ι  Credits: 58.0  Ι  Offered: September to July

Program Description

In this 11-month Certificate program, learners prepare for a rewarding career in working with children by learning the basic knowledge and skills about childhood behaviours, cognitive development, and emotional needs. Further studies include learning how to incorporate the Indigenous perspective while planning and delivering programs in a childcare centre. After completing this program, graduates can work in a childcare centre with 3 - 5-year-old children.

Interested in getting certified as an Early Childhood Educator in British Columbia? The first step after graduation is applying to the Early Childhood Educator Registry for a one-year certificate to practice in British Columbia. This provides you with the opportunity to earn higher wages and work alongside a Certified Early Childhood Educator.

Once you have completed 500 hours of either paid or volunteer work, you can then apply to the Early Childhood Educator Registry for a five-year certificate to practice in British Columbia.
