Indigenous Early Childhood Educator

Program Description
In this 11-month Certificate program, learners prepare for a rewarding career in working with children by learning the basic knowledge and skills about childhood behaviours, cognitive development, and emotional needs. Further studies include learning how to incorporate the Indigenous perspective while planning and delivering programs in a childcare centre. After completing this program, graduates can work in a childcare centre with 3 - 5-year-old children.
Interested in getting certified as an Early Childhood Educator in British Columbia? The first step after graduation is applying to the Early Childhood Educator Registry for a one-year certificate to practice in British Columbia. This provides you with the opportunity to earn higher wages and work alongside a Certified Early Childhood Educator.
Once you have completed 500 hours of either paid or volunteer work, you can then apply to the Early Childhood Educator Registry for a five-year certificate to practice in British Columbia.

Our graduates find jobs with different employers including childcare centres, non-profit agencies, and First Nation communities. Positions may include:

- Infant and Toddler Educator
ECE Assistant Certificate
University Transfer
This certificate program is transferrable to our diploma programs in Indigenous Special Needs Educator Diploma or Indigenous Infant and Toddler Educator Diploma programs. You have the option to complete these diploma programs as a combined diploma program.
After completing the NEC diploma programs, they are transferrable to the third year of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Care & Education Degree at Capilano University or to the University of British Columbia, 39 credits are transferrable to the Bachelor of Education – NITEP – Indigenous Teacher Education Program.
