Student Services
The physical environment, the unique character of NEC as a welcoming place, “the place where people gather” a place for ceremony, working together, sharing of meals, and honoring all cultures makes for a unique setting in the middle of a busy city. The buildings West Coast architecture, construction materials and First Nations botanical gardens reflect the natural environment of the Longhouse that welcomes all Aboriginal people home.
As a philosophy, NEC is a living place, evolving and reflecting the value of its community. It is a safe place where people are heard and respected and given the opportunity to learn in surroundings, which reflect our traditions and cultures. For many students the Longhouse represents a home away from home, a safe place to meet other First Nations students, to learn from, and to share knowledge, friendships and cultures in a supportive learning environment.
Student Services supports and extends learning opportunities beyond the classroom by providing services that enable students to take full advantage of the traditional setting and cultural atmosphere to strengthen their learning, and their personal growth. Our goal is to assist students to maximize their educational opportunities, connect with appropriate external agencies as needed and plan for successful transitions into College life and out into the world beyond.
