Indigenous Special Needs Educator

Program Description
In this 8-month Diploma program, learners prepare for a rewarding career to work with children who have extra support needs. The 200-level courses are completed over two academic terms covering theory and practice in advanced child growth and development, Indigenous health care, and augmentative communication. After completing this program, graduates can work in a childcare centre as a Special Needs Educator.
You can apply to the Early Childhood Registry to become a Certified Special Needs Educator after completing the program.
Both the Indigenous Infant and Toddler and Indigenous Special Needs Diploma programs can be taken at the same time for a cost and time savings.
Career Path
Our graduates find jobs with different employers including childcare centres, non-profit agencies, and First Nation communities. Positions may include:
- Special Needs Support Worker
- Early Childhood Educator
- Outreach Support Worker
- Childcare Worker
Combined Diploma Option
Both the Indigenous Infant and Toddler Educator and Indigenous Special Needs Educator Diploma programs can be taken at the same time for a cost and time savings (10 months total).
University Transfer
The credits earned in the Indigenous Infant and Toddler Diploma program is transferrable to Capilano University or NYTEP at the University of British Columbia.
