Dear Members of the Native Education College Alumni Association:
I am pleased to discuss with you the future success stories of our People who have graduated from NEC. These success stories will be posted on the NEC web site under the Alumni Association. We are going to begin to feature Alumni members who have achieved personal and educational success upon graduating from NEC.
As the President of your Alumni Association, I feel we need to honour, recognize, and celebrate these success stories of our people. These people have worked extremely hard putting in countless hours to make a difference for our community members. These extraordinary people are key role models that will generate a positive effect on other community members.
One key aspect to NEC Alumni Association’s success is to become more active in all aspects of our community. This means we must begin to develop a support network of mentors who have the ability to help our new and past graduates in their chosen field. This mentorship could work in a two-way relationship in which our students could also provide their mentor with updates in their chosen industry.
Presently, I am working with the Native Education College that will involve our membership in all activities associated with the school. In order to become a stronger community as a whole, we need to build our participation in every aspect.
As community members, we have the ability to voice our concerns at all levels of government in regards to our education. We must begin to use our voices so we can make changes for our future generations. If you feel that there needs to be change, then perhaps we can develop a committee that could one day be sitting with the provincial government when they begin talks in regards to our education?
As the NEC Alumni, it is our duty to make sure our children will also have access to education. We need to become more active so we can have say in our children’s future.
There are many areas that we as the Alumni could make a difference. In numbers we become strong and it will be our voices that will be key to making a difference for our future generations.
As President I feel that there is a great deal of work to be accomplished, however, it cannot be achieved by only one, two or even three people, it takes a whole community to make difference. If you feel that you want to participate in the Alumni Association's drive for success, then please email the Native Education College Alumni web site with your comments, suggestions or your willingness to participate.
Together we can begin to make changes for our people - one step at a time.
"By ourselves we hold onto all the responsibilities, exhaustion, and loneliness that will more than likely result in our inability to complete all the necessary tasks to become sustainable.
Together we share, cooperate, generate and complete the necessary tasks that will guide us to sustainability for many generations to come!"
All my relations,
Nancy A. Luis
